The colic stage seems to be over and he’s now falling asleep earlier. It’s been consistent for about a month now and I’ve read enough books on reading to know that we need to start getting a routine set for him. As of yesterday we started our nighttime routine. We start at around 6:45 so that he’s sleeping by around 7:45pm. If we need to start earlier then we will but for now it seems to be working.
What do we do? We start with a bath, then take him to the room to apply lotion, we let him just play on his back for awhile and enjoy being with him. Then he’s dressed and we read 3 books. As one of us is reading the book the other begins to feed him. After he eats, we dim the lights and sing songs to him (this is quite funny b/c I know very little children songs so I end up making one up until Tim think of a new song), when his food has somewhat digested we lie him down, turning off the lights. We pat him and hum a melody (the same one each night) and he fusses or cries but eventually falls asleep.
Day #2 - he did really well. He wakes up a few time afterwards but we pat and hum a melody to get him asleep again. We don’t pick him up, which is good, and he does fall asleep. At least until he’s hungry.
